Concert Series (2011)

Classical Guitar Retreat’s Concert Series features some of the world’s most exciting and inspirational musicians. The sublime acoustics and intimacy of the Cathedral of the Isles lends itself to the classical guitar and ensures that every note will be a magical one. For four days audiences will be treated to performances of the very highest level, all taking place in one of the most unique and atmospheric settings.

The 2010 concert series features a performance from the Croatian Virtuoso Ana Vidovic. This will be Ana’s début performance in Scotland and is not to be missed! Have a look at all the various concerts in detail below, there is a concert on each day of the Classical Guitar Retreat.

Thursday 7th July

Allan Neave directs the CGR Faculty Concert which features a variety of solo, duo, trio and quartet performances in collaboration with the other course tutors Yvonne Zehner, Matthew McAllister, Peter Stewart and Frevo Quartet.
Time: 8pm

Friday 8th July

German guitarist Yvonne Zehner performs a recital of music for solo guitar entitled Passacaglias including repertoire by Britten, Biber, Steinkogler and Chiereghin. This will be a unique programme of music and an insight into music not often performed in Scotland let alone the Cathedral of the Isles.

Saturday 9th July

Celebrating their Ten Year Anniversary the Agnew McAllister Duo are one of the most sought after exponents of the Flute & Guitar genre in the world. Aisling & Matthew will perform a very special recital as part of the Classical Guitar Retreat.

Sunday 10th July

Classical Guitar Retreat is delighted to welcome the Croatian Virtuoso Ana Vidovic to give her début performance in Scotland. Ana is known the world over for her breathtaking performances and charming stage presence.

Sunday 10th July

It’s the turn of the students to take to the stage under the watchful gaze of Peter Stewart. Perfomances from the CG Retreat Guitar Orchestra, budding soloists and newly formed ensembles are all expected!

Location

The Isle of Cumbrae is easily reached from Largs by making a short 10-minute ferry trip.
There are excellent transport connections to Largs from Glasgow and its environs. Largs is around an hour by road, rail, car or bus from Glasgow city centre, Glasgow International and Glasgow Prestwick airports.
