Course (2010)

The Classical Guitar Retreat offers an intensive four day residential course which immerses the students into the world of Classical Guitar. Every student on the course receives an individual lesson with their choice of teacher, alongside this are opportunities to perform in Masterclasses. Participation in the Guitar Orchestra is a highlight of the course culminating in the Orchestra’s performance in the Student Concert on the final night!

A unique element of the Classical Guitar Retreat course is the opportunity to participate in Chamber Music Workshops with other instruments. Students have the chance to join members of the Frevo Quartet and get some first class Chamber music Coaching! Play along with Flute, Violin & Double Bass, learn new repertoire and enhance ensemble skills.

On the academic side the CG Retreat features a series of lectures by tutors and guest artists. Lutenist James Akers will be giving a lecture on the Ancestory of the Guitar and there will be an opportunity for students to get close to Lutes, Baroque Guitars and a Theorbo!. The Cathedral’s own Director of Music Alastair Chisholm will be giving a lecture on Theme & Variations.
